Corfu Town: A Journey into the Heart of the Island

If there is a place where history, culture, and life's simple pleasures meet in a perfect dance, it is Kerkira, the capital of Corfu. This city is not just a point on a map, but a complete sensory experience that makes you fall in love with the Mediterranean atmosphere at every step.

Strolling through narrow streets

The heart of the city is a labyrinth of narrow streets (the old town), with buildings of a warm ochre and laundry hanging in the sun, making you feel as though you've stepped into another era. Venetian architecture, with elegant arches and small, hidden squares, provides a fairytale setting. It is the perfect place to get lost without a map, discovering an artisanal shop or a lively tavern around every corner.

Authentic Taste: Gyros and local delights

No visit to Corfu Town is complete without savoring an authentic Gyros. We found a small place in the side streets where the aromas of seasoned meat and fresh pita entice you from a distance. It is the perfect quick meal, but loaded with a flavor that you only find in Greece.

For dessert, there is one mandatory stop: Papagiorgis. We learned that their gelato is considered one of the top 100 in the world, and after tasting it, we understood why. From classic flavors to local ones, such as kumquat (the island's symbol), every spoonful is pure indulgence.

The Old Fortress

Dominating the city from a rocky promontory, the Old Fortress (Palaio Frourio) is an imposing testimony to the island's defensive past. We explored its tunnels, admired the Lighthouse's architecture, and climbed to the highest point for a panoramic view of the entire city and the Ionian Sea. It is a place where you truly feel the greatness of history.

The Airplane Spectacle at Kanoni

Towards the end of the day, we went to the Holy Monastery of Panagia Vlacherna in the Kanoni area. It is one of the most photographed places in Corfu, a small white church on an island connected to the shore by a narrow pier. But the real attraction here is the proximity to the airport. Standing on the pier as planes take off or land right over your head is an electrifying experience that combines the spiritual tranquility of the place with the adrenaline of modern technology.

Corfu Town showed us that Greece is more than just sunny beaches; it is a place where every street corner has a story to tell.
