A day of high-flying adventure and deep history in Comana, home to the second largest biodiversity in Romania and the legend of Vlad the Impaler.
Just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Bucharest lies a hidden sanctuary where nature and history intertwine: Comana. Our visit on a crisp March day offered the perfect mix of adrenaline-pumping activities and quiet reflection.
Adventures at Comana Adventure Park
We started our day with a burst of energy at Parc Aventura Comana. The kids (and the brave adults!) Took to the treetops, navigating the suspended rope courses. The absolute highlight was the zipline over the lake—the feeling of gliding through the air with the water sparkling below was exhilarating and offered a unique perspective of the park.
Exploring the Neajlov Delta
After the high-flying fun, we took a slower pace to explore the Neajlov Delta. Often referred to as the "Mini-Delta," this natural park is the second most important wetland in Romania for biodiversity, right after the Danube Delta.
Even in early spring, the life in the marshlands was vibrant. We walked along the wooden pontoons, spotting herons and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the reeds. It’s hard to believe such a wild and beautiful ecosystem is so close to the capital.
The Legacy of Vlad the Impaler: Comana Monastery
No visit to Comana is complete without paying respects at the Comana Monastery. Founded in 1461 by the legendary Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Țepeș), this monastery-fortress sits on what was once a strategic island in the marshes.
There is a powerful sense of history here. It is believed by many that this is the final resting place of Vlad Țepeș, who reportedly died in a battle nearby. Whether or not the legends are true, the quiet beauty of the monastery and its fortress-like walls provide a poignant connection to Romania's medieval past.
Comana proved to be a versatile destination—whether you're looking for an active day in the trees, a peaceful walk in nature, or a journey through the annals of history, it truly has something for everyone.
